The SEJ Process
"Self Empowerment is the realisation of the True Self beyond the mind. This realisation puts you in touch with a Self that is free of limitations, free of fearful thoughts and painful emotions, free to respond to life rather than react, free to reach your full potential. The Self Empowerment Journey - SEJ is a process that takes you to this realisation."
Jacqueline Mary Phillips

Discover the SEJ Process
The SEJ Process is a structured, independent Self Empowerment Journey designed to provide individuals with a proactive framework for personal development. Supported by qualified practice guides, the training offers a practical, 4-step tool focused on helping practitioners cultivate a meaningful, positive shift in their mental and emotional outlook.
What is the SEJ Process?
The SEJ Process is a solution-focused, guided self-help framework that has been shared with individuals for over 28 years.
-
Inspired by Personal Experience: The framework was born out of founder Mary’s personal journey through severe mental health challenges. Finding a pathway to long-term emotional stability and wellbeing inspired her to dedicate the last 28 years to sharing these self-reflective tools with others.
-
A Proactive Well-Being Tool: Designed as an independent self-help framework, the process offers individuals an accessible way to proactively manage daily emotional challenges and build long-term personal resilience.
-
CPD UK Accredited Training: The program is fully accredited by CPD UK, ensuring that our educational delivery meets professional standards for continuing personal and professional development.
How It Works: The 4-Step Framework
The SEJ Process is a simple, easy-to-use, 4-step method that can be practiced by individuals of almost any age, including children from age 7 upwards. Because it is a versatile framework, it can be applied anytime, anywhere, in the exact moment a challenging situation arises.
-
Steps 1 & 2 (Cultivating Awareness and Calm): The early stages of the framework guide the practitioner through independent self-observation, helping to ease immediate emotional tension and foster a greater sense of perceived mental, emotional and physical calm.
-
Steps 3 & 4 (Empowered Action): By completing the final steps, the practitioner is guided to identify and break limiting patterns of thought or behaviour, empowering them to confidently choose positive actions and work towards their full potential.
Empowering Your Own Growth
The SEJ Process is effective because it is not a clinical therapy—it is a guided self-help process that empowers you to become your own day-to-day guide. By teaching you how to evaluate your own internal responses, it provides a versatile, lifelong tool that adapts uniquely to the personal wellbeing goals of the individual.
What can the SEJ Process support you with?
Every individual faces unique life circumstances, and while it is difficult to create a comprehensive list of every situation we can assist with, the SEJ Process is commonly used to help navigate day-to-day challenges and support your overall mental and emotional well-being. Examples include:
-
Enhancing Daily Well-Being: Building personal resilience and cultivating a healthier mental and emotional outlook.
-
Stress Management: Navigating general stress, situational anxieties, and everyday worries.
-
Life Transitions: Coping with bereavement, loss, career changes, or academic transitions.
-
Personal Dynamics: Addressing relationship issues, family challenges, or workplace difficulties.
-
Daily Overwhelm: Managing financial worries, everyday health concerns, and personal triggers.
The versatile nature of this structured self-enquiry framework lends itself uniquely to your personal life situations, helping you independently explore and address limiting thoughts, beliefs, and emotional responses.

How does the SEJ Process differ from traditional coaching and therapy?
Our independent SEJ Consultants and Trainers specialise in personal empowerment, guided self-help, and assisting you in working towards your true potential. Rather than providing long-term clinical mental health management or traditional counselling, our framework focuses on teaching you self-directed tools for emotional tracking and reflection.
The SEJ Process is uniquely designed to support and enhance your everyday mental and emotional well-being. While traditional therapies often involve long-term clinical oversight to manage or cope with specific medical conditions, our educational programme focuses on personal responsibility. We equip you with a practical, proactive skillset so you can independently navigate challenging thoughts, build resilience, and self-manage your emotional health no matter what life brings your way.
Many of our clients appreciate that the SEJ Process emphasises personal responsibility, equipping you to confidently navigate challenging thoughts and painful emotions independently. It is a collaborative effort: we provide the verified methodology and structured guidance, and you apply the process.
Much like learning to drive or working with a fitness instructor, the framework provides a structured routine that, with regular practice, is designed to become a natural, intuitive way of managing daily life events. For those interested in professional paths, qualifications are available to become an accredited SEJ Consultant or Trainer, and the process can be used alongside traditional professional practices to enhance personal development outcomes.
How does the SEJ Process work?
The SEJ Process is an innovative, solution-focused, and psychoeducational process of structured self-enquiry. It allows individuals to cultivate reflective insights that can positively influence daily life choices, helping them connect with internal solutions, broaden their perspective, and break free from unhelpful habits.
Through our educational training, participants learn to build a proactive awareness of their personal triggers and emotional responses. They are then introduced to our simple 4-step framework laid out in a practical worksheet.
By Step 4 of the process, the framework is designed to help the practitioner cultivate a state of greater mental and emotional calm, address limiting beliefs, and identify clear, positive actions to reach their full potential. To ensure your continued success, we host live weekly SEJ Practice Workshops where participants can review their application of the worksheet, ask questions, and share their progress within an online community.
How does the SEJ Process compare to cognitive approaches?
First and foremost, the SEJ Process is a guided self-help tool rather than a clinical psychological therapy. Standard cognitive approaches are excellent for helping individuals see how their thoughts and feelings determine unhelpful behaviours.
While the SEJ Process respects that foundation, it aims to guide the practitioner a step further. The framework focuses on teaching practical techniques to help individuals conceptually dis-identify from intrusive or limiting thoughts in the moment. Cultivating this ability to go dis-identify from stressful thinking helps practitioners build personal resilience, bounce back more quickly from daily challenges, and confidently self-manage no matter what life brings their way.
Our approach is best summarised by a question once posed by a distressed 15-year-old youth: "Don't just tell me not to listen to my thoughts, tell me how to not listen to my thoughts."
By using the structured steps of the SEJ Process, individuals are provided with a clear, actionable answer to that question—giving them a practical strategy to shift away from overwhelming feelings, find immediate focus, and take inspired action.
Why a Self Empowerment Process is important
Education
One third of students report feeling depressed or lonely while nearly half of students with a mental health condition do not disclose it to their universities.
Workplace
Research indicates that 12.7% of all sickness absence days in the UK can be attributed to mental health conditions, with stress among them. redcrossfirstaidtraining.co.uk/mental-health-in-the-workplace-british-red-cross-training
Individuals
Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year.
